Special Inspections During Concrete Construction

Special Inspections During Concrete Construction

The Department of Buildings (DOB) has clarified the role of special inspectors during concrete placement by issuing Buildings Bulletin 2021-003.

Qualified special inspectors must verify the use of the proper design mix as well as continuously observe concrete placement to verify appropriate handling methods. The concrete special inspector must communicate with the concrete safety manager to ensure compliance. All steps of concrete placement must be observed by the special inspector, including grout used to lubricate the placement boom, uniform concrete mix consistency, and slump tests.

Additionally, the permit holder must ensure there are adequate grout disposal boxes and that concrete washout procedures comply with Code.
