Gas piping systems must be periodically inspected per Local Law 152 of 2016.
The inspection is applicable to all buildings with gas piping, except R-3 buildings (one- and two-family dwellings, group homes, and small convents and monasteries). The gas piping system inspection examines exposed gas piping in non-tenant spaces and identifies any conditions requiring correction.
The gas piping inspection report must be filed through the Department of Building’s online portal. The GPS2: Gas Piping System Periodic Inspection Certification form must be uploaded.
If a building does not have gas piping, an architect or engineer must certify that the building does not contain a gas piping system by submitting a certification via GPS2 form through the same online portal.
The gas piping system inspection deadlines have been staggered based on which Community District the building is located in with the first deadline of December 31, 2020 approaching for Community Districts 1, 3, and 10 in all boroughs. See 1 RCNY ยง103-10 for complete schedule of compliance deadline. To verify the Community District any building is located in, search by address at communityprofiles.planning.nyc.gov.
A civil penalty of $10,000 will be issued for failure to file the Gas Piping System Periodic Inspection Certification by the required deadlines.
