NYC Energy Benchmarking Reports Are Due May 1

NYC Energy Benchmarking Reports Are Due May 1

May is fast approaching, and so is the deadline for covered businesses to submit their energy and water consumption benchmarking reports.

Pursuant to the NYC Benchmarking Law, Local Law 84 of 2009 (as amended by Local Law 133 of 2016), businesses named on the Cover Building List (CBL) must submit their reports by May 1. The penalty for noncompliance is $500 per quarter.

We recommend that all property owners check the CBL to see if they are listed. The list can be accessed here.

If your business is on the list, you must submit your benchmarking reports via the Energy Star Portfolio Manager, which can be accessed here. Water data must be automatically updated via a connection to the NYC Department of Environmental Protection (DEP); property owners need to establish that connection by contacting DEP.

Building owners may assign a representative to assist with benchmarking and reporting. If you are in need of assistance, please contact us as soon as possible so that we can ensure your property meets the May 1 deadline.
