One day before the July 1, 2026 compliance deadline, the New York City Council repealed the portions of Local Law 75 of 2009 regarding existing roll-down security grilles. The repeal was sponsored by 35 of the 51 City Council members and passed unanimously.
Before the repeal, Local Law 75 of 2009 would have required existing roll-down security grilles to meet a 70% visibility standard or face penalties.
Now, existing roll-down security grilles do not have to be 70% visible, but new roll-down security grilles will need to meet the 70% visibility requirement.
