The annual Department of Buildings summer no-penalty inspection program is underway. Since 2005, the DOB has conducted free, no-penalty visual inspections of properties to provide guidance and recommendations for compliance concerns and repairs.
Members of the public can call 311 to schedule inspections of:
- Decks and patios
- Retaining walls
- Facades for buildings with fewer than six stories
- Business signs
- Unregistered boilers
- Unregistered private elevator devices
Violations will not be issued as a result of these inspections. Any violating conditions or safety issues will be addressed by the inspector and guidance will be provided on how to correct the conditions. This valuable program helps homeowners and small business owners identify and remedy safety hazards without fear of potential fines or citations.
The inspection program runs through July 31, 2024.
