New FDNY Commissioner Appointed

Last week New York City Mayor Eric Adams appointed Robert Tucker as the new commissioner of the Fire Department of New York (FDNY) in a ceremony on Randall’s Island. Tucker is the CEO of the security firm T&M USA. Although never having worked as a firefighter, he has served on the board of the FDNY Foundation, a charitable organization that raises money for the FDNY. Tucker was previously named an honorary fire commissioner and has served as a member of the Board of Trustees and treasurer of the New York City Police Foundation and an honorary police commissioner, and past president of the Associated Licensed Detectives of New York state. He is also a member of the Board of Directors of White Plains Hospital and a former member of the Young Presidents’ Organization, Metro Chapter.

Tucker’s interest in the Fire Department began as a teenager, when he interned in the FDNY Manhattan communications office. Prior to joining T&M in 1999, he served as a special assistant in the Queens District Attorney’s Office under then-District Attorney Richard A. Brown. Tucker is a graduate of The George Washington University and Pace School of Law.

Tucker succeeds Laura Kavanagh, the first female FDNY commissioner in the city’s history.
