New FDNY Application Process

New FDNY Application Process

Effective June 2, 2019 all new fire alarm systems, fire protection plans, and fire suppression systems (range hood and alternative non-water) applications will be filed directly at FDNY; application paperwork will no longer be processed at the DOB. This change is the first phase of future FDNY plans to further enhance and digitize their plan review process.

Local Law 195 of 2018 enacted changes regarding the approval process for many application types and amended the administrative, building, mechanical, and fire codes. For the full text of Local Law 195 of 2018 click here.

FDNY applications will no longer have a nine-digit BIS number and will only have an FPIMS account number. Updated FDNY forms will be used for any fire alarm systems, fire protection plans, and fire suppression systems filed on or after June 2nd. Any existing FDNY application in progress will follow the existing submission, inspection, and sign-off procedure.

The new FDNY application submission process is expected to speed up plan review time however there may be some initial growing pains.
