Originally slated for May 2025, Local Law 157’s compliance deadline has been moved to January 1, 2027.
Local Law 157 (LL157) mandates that natural gas detectors must be installed in residential buildings; it applies to multi-family as well as single-family residences. Property owners and managers must provide and install smoke detectors and alarms, carbon monoxide detectors and alarms, and natural gas detectors and alarms. Gas detectors must comply with LL157 specifications. Owners must also replace these devices when they reach end-of-life. For more details on compliance, see our previous blog post.
