As New York City attempts to streamline its processes and workflows, the process for submitting Electrical Plan Reviews (EPRs) has changed.
Previously, the first step in filing for an EPR was submitting an email to the EPR unit. Someone from the EPR would then email the applicant back with an application number and instructions for submission. A set of forms would then need to be either submitted in person or over email.
Effective September 1, 2026, the EPR application must be reviewed though the EPR’s new online intake form. Once the form is submitted, the applicant will receive an email with a job number and further instructions. While this is not a complete overhaul, it does eliminate the need for in-person submissions.
The EPR intake form can be used for both initial filings and Post-Approval Amendments (PAAs), but only one application may be submitted per online submission. Responses to objections can’t be submitted through the EPR Intake Form; applicants will need to contact the examiner directly.
What hasn’t changed at all is how the filing fees are paid. That still requires an in-person trip to the DOB Central Cashier at 280 Broadway:
- Initial filing: $650
- PAA filing: $250
It’s not clear yet if the processing times for the new intake system will be shorter or longer than the previous way, so we recommend starting the process as early as possible to avoid delays.
