City Council Votes on Lead Exposure Laws

New York City Council recently passed five bills regarding lead paint exposure which expand on current lead-based hazard remediation requirements.

Specifically, any dwelling where a child under six years old lives must complete lead remediation work by July 1, 2027 and/or prior to the unit having new tenants. The City’s lead-based paint hazard inspections will be proactive instead of being based on complaints issued by the public. The legislation’s goal is to protect current and future residents.
