Annual Parapet Inspection Reminder

Annual Parapet Inspection Reminder

New York City Local Law 126 of 2021 requires annual parapet observation inspections by a qualified person. Parapet inspections are required for all buildings except detached 1- or 2- family residences or buildings with a barrier preventing access to the exterior wall.

The parapet inspection involves close-up observations inspection of the entire parapet, which may be from a roof or fire escape in compliance with 1 RCNY §103-15. If a hazardous condition is noticed, the inspector must immediately notify the Department of Buildings (DOB) and install public protection. Unsafe conditions must be corrected within 90 days of DOB notification. Following the inspection, owners must retain the inspection records for a minimum of six years and be available to the DOB upon request.
