NYC to Break Record for Protected Bike Lanes

Posted on June, 24 2016

Many protected bicycle lanes already exist in New York City. Earlier this year Mayor de Blasio announced that New York City plans to install over 15 miles of physically protected bicycle lanes in 2016.

This will be the most miles of protected bike lanes installed in one year. In 2015 12 miles of physically protected bike lanes were created. The protected bike lanes will be located along Amsterdam Avenue, 2nd Avenue and 6th Avenue in Manhattan, as well as new two-way protected bike lanes in Marine Park in Brooklyn, on 20th Avenue in Queens and along Bruckner Boulevard in the Bronx.

The DOT plans for protected bike lanes will build on the success of previous projects which have reduced cyclist and pedestrian crashes.
