DOB Creates Process for Essential Construction Requests

Posted on March, 31 2020

Following up on the DOB’s guidelines published yesterday for COVID-19 response, the DOB has enacted a procedure for requesting that a permit be issued for essential construction.

In compliance with New York State Executive Order 202.6 and Empire State Development guidance, emergency, essential or solitary work continuation requests are available via DOB NOW.

All applications related to essential construction requests must be in approved status.

To submit an essential construction request, the applicant of record (PE or RA listed on PW1) must log in or create a free eFiling or DOB NOW account. Once logged in to DOB NOW select the Essential Construction icon and input application numbers. The DOB is not allowing other parties to submit these requests. The entries must include the job number followed by the document number, for example: M00000001-I1 (for DOB NOW) or 123456789-01 (for BIS).

Existing permits, already in effect, must remain active and continue to be renewed for the duration of work suspension.
